How To Make Vegetable Upma In Microwave

Upmauppumavu or uppittu is a dish from the Indian subcontinent, most common in South Indian, Maharashtrian, and Sri Lankan Tamil breakfast; cooked as a thick porridge from dry roasted semolina or coarse rice flour. Various seasonings and/or vegetables are often added during the cooking, depending on individual preferences.


  • 1 cup roasted Sooji (white)
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 Carrot (chopped)
  • 2 green Chillies (chopped)
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • Few strings of Coriander
  • 4 whole Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp. Bengal Gram
  • 1 tsp. Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • 1 cup Peas
  • 1 tbsp. Oil
  • Salt & red chilies to taste

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl add oil, onion, mustard seeds, whole red chilies, Bengal gram curry leaves and microwave for 3 mins. at 100% power.
  2. Add chopped carrot, boiled peas, cover the bowl and microwave for 4 mins. at 100% power.
  3. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it with green chutney.
